JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Outdoor Learning Tutor (Term Time)

Reports to: Head of Education

Job Purpose

To provide outdoor learning and activity sessions for the children and young people attending Moore House Group, Bathgate Campus.

Working alongside education and care staff, you will plan and deliver safe, engaging and enjoyable outdoor learning experiences that support pupils’ learning, wellbeing and personal development. You will support children and young people to build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy learning through practical, hands-on outdoor activities.

You will support the delivery of an active, kinaesthetic curriculum through outdoor learning opportunities, including Forest School, the John Muir Award and Duke of Edinburgh Award where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging outdoor learning sessions for pupils with a range of abilities and learning needs. 
• Use a variety of teaching methods and adapt activities to meet individual learning styles. 
• Set appropriate learning goals and support pupils to achieve their full potential. 
• Support pupils to achieve relevant learning outcomes in line with their individual education plans. 
• Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and resilience through outdoor learning. 
• Deliver outdoor education programmes, including Forest School, John Muir Award and Duke of Edinburgh Award where appropriate. 
• Prepare, maintain and safely use outdoor learning equipment and resources. 
• Monitor pupil progress and provide constructive feedback to pupils, teachers and the wider education team. 
• Contribute to discussions, meetings and reviews relating to pupils’ progress where appropriate.
• Build positive relationships with pupils to support their learning, wellbeing and personal development. 
• Promote positive behaviour using therapeutic approaches and behaviour support strategies in line with Moore House Group’s values. 
• Work collaboratively with education and care staff to provide safe, inclusive and engaging learning experiences. 
• Complete risk assessments and ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of pupils during all outdoor activities. 
• Maintain accurate records and complete administrative duties in line with Moore House Group procedures. 
• Ensure and promote the safeguarding and welfare of all children and young people. 
• Act as a positive role model and uphold Moore House Group’s ethos, values and policies. 
• Participate in training, supervision and continuing professional development. 
• Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.
